Alexandria Hospice

1st Jul 2020

Lukhozi has been appointed by the Johannesburg Development Agency (JDA) as Civil and Structural Engineers for the construction of the Alexandra Hospice and rehabilitation centre.

The building is located in Alexandria, within Johannesburg.

The estimated project cost is approximately R80 million rand.

Once constructed, the new purpose-built facility will provide sixty beds to cater to the increasing needs of the community. The proposed facility will include, general buildings, parking, medical wards and frail care.

The facility aims to reduce its carbon footprint by utilizing various green techniques. The building will be partially-constructed with eco-construction technology using waste bottles and fishnets. An urban farm will be nurtured on the roof with the water sourced from a borehole and stored in an elevated tank. The 12 Wards, with 4 beds each, will be built around an open courtyard to allow relaxation, entertainment and healing for patients.

Lukhozi will be responsible for the planning, design and implementation of the Civil and Structural Engineering Services that will be required to support the proposed development.

The project is due for completion towards the end of 2020.
