LENTEGEUR PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

26th April 2024

There are often circumstances which lead clients to change consultants during the course of a project. Regardless of the circumstance, it has become much of a norm over the years, and that presents its own set of challenges.

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers were appointed for the design and documentation review of the electrical infrastructure for the Lentegeur (over rail) Pedestrian Bridge. This process began in 2022, where Lukhozi’s Electrical Department had to compile a design review of the tender documentation. Subsequently, the design responsibility was transferred and taken over by Lukhozi during construction.

To add to the pressure of the design and documentation review process, the project’s procurement process had concluded, and the contract had been awarded. This meant that the professional team was on the back foot at the start of the project, but the team made great progress and the project ultimately reached a successful completion in early 2024.

The pedestrian bridge is located north of Lentegeur Metrorail Station in Cape Town and crosses the railway south of the R300 highway. The project includes a bridge with pathways, stairs and ramps on either side of the bridge. The electrical and electronic services included:

  • Lighting along the length of the pathways, ramps, stairs and the bridge; and
  • Security cameras (CCTV) along the length of the pathways, ramps, stairs and the bridge.

Conditions in the consulting engineering industry will continue to change with time, and with these changes, consultants must adapt to the circumstances. We are proud of our electrical department for being a part of the professional team that delivered a successful project to the client and the community of Lentegeur.
