Port Alfred Emergency Sewer Repair

15th April 2021

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd has made quick work of the emergency repair of sewer infrastructure in the Port Alfred CBD for Ndlambe Municipality. Sewage leaks and foul odours have been a serious problem for the town’s residents and businesses for yearsbut a recent collapse of the deep bulk sewer on the west bank of Putt Bridge at the intersection of Main Street and Cause Way demanded immediate attention.

A blend of trenchless technologies and conventional trench excavation was used to replace the collapsed sewer.  JDM Drillinginstalled a total of 70 m of HDPE pipe utilizing directional drilling techniques to avoid damage to existing infrastructure and to minimize traffic disruption

Formulating a Solution and Trenchless Technologies

Rudcor Engineering worked quickly to install the last 30m of HDPE pipes to the sewage pump station in saturated and collapsing sands.

Although minor traffic disruptions are likely to continue in the area while the manholes are being constructed, the connection to the sewage pump station is flowing, restoring the bulk sewer system to an operational condition.

Well done to all concerned!
