Project Complete: Hope Schools Hall
It has been a great honour for Lukhozi Consulting Engineers to have been involved in the development of the Hope Schools Hall and skills centre project as the appointed Civil, Structural, Mechanical & Electrical Engineers.
This project involved the design and construction of a two-storey 3000 m² concrete frame with a structural steel portal frame above and the associated civil works. The building serves as a multipurpose centre offering the schools’ staff and pupils access to an assembly area, office space, storage area and a fully equipped kitchen and canteen area where daily meals are prepared and served.
In addition to the structure itself, Lukhozi Consulting Engineers’ scope of work included a new entrance, access roads and paved parking areas, as well as storm water detention ponds. The vast roof space was not overlooked and is utilised to harvest rainwater which is stored in a 470 m³ reinforced concrete reservoir located within the building’s sub-structure. This water is treated on-site and used for all the schools’ needs.
Hope Schools, located in Summerpride in East London, is a non-governmental school that offers first-world education to children who come from underprivileged communities affected by HIV/AIDS and high unemployment. It is a sanctuary where they can be educated and receive holistic care throughout their school career.
