Nooiensfontein Sewage Pump Station
Lukhozi Consulting Engineers was appointed by the Western Cape Government Department of Housing to identify the means to divert the flow of sewage from one WWTW to another. This was achieved by replacing the old Nooiensfontein Sewage pump station with a new sewage pump station and rising main. The pump station has a pumping capacity of 100l/s at 50m head. The rising main is 355mm in diameter and is approximately 4.15km long. The route included two micro-tunnels, one beneath the R300 and the second beneath the Prassa Railway infrastructure. A challenge during the construction period was dealing with existing services and a high groundwater table. Lukhozi provided all of the services for this project namely civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
