Brickfields Pre-treatment Works Holding Pond Extension

Lukhozi Consulting Engineers was appointed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to increase the holding pond capacity of the Brickfields Pre-treatment works.

The works involved the excavation of approximately 56 000m³ of earth, a 200m access road, 15 000m² concrete block paving, 600m of fencing and other minor civils. As part of the programme, local SMME subcontractors have been involved in the construction contract. The Brickfields Pre-treatment works are linked with a single pipeline to the wastewater treatment works. During the construction, this pipeline failed and flooded the works and resulted in a perched groundwater table which has affected the construction contract.
