Diaz Road PE – Construction

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality commissioned the design and construction of the dual carriageway of Diaz Road (Main Road 436) from Mount Road in North End to C.J. Langenhoven Drive in Adcockvale, Port Elizabeth.

Construction entailed a side cut to side fill operation for much of the 2,3km carriageway, with most of the excavation in Table Mountain Series, requiring blasting. The project involved the local roads as well as the diversion of many services. The carriageway has proven to be a major bypass from the congested Govan Mbeki Avenue and was completed at a cost of R 24 million (2008).
